Bungie Studio’s Halo series is one of the most successful first-person shooter franchises in the history of video games. Its popularity amongst gamers and critics is easy to explain. Each entry in the Halo series is a rare combination of excellent gameplay (in both single-player and multiplayer modes) and an engaging storyline. Halo figures have, as a result, become very popular.
In the single-player campaign, the player assumes the role of Master Chief, an enhanced super-soldier, fighting against two major antagonists. He is assisted by some aliens like the Arbiter, an exile from the Covenant, an AI personality named Cortana, and various human military allies.
The Master Chief battles against two different types of alien forces. One is an alliance of different aliens called the Covenant, who are led on an apocalyptic religious mission to cleanse the galaxy. The second major alien force is called the Flood. The Flood is composed of trillions of tiny parasitic lifeforms and insects controlled by a single collective intelligence, which is named Gravemind. The Flood’s tiny minions attack and turn lifeforms (like humans and the Covenant) into walking carriers and shock troops.
But apart from the single-player campaign, fans of Halo spend most of their time with the game on the extremely competitive multi-player XBOX-live platform. Multiplayer shooters like Halo have a unique culture, based on collecting in-game armor pieces and reaching achievements of skills and prowess. Halo players become fond of the characters and vehicles from the game from constant exposure to it, and want to show of their love of the game in the outside world as well. Hence, the popularity of Halo memorabilia.
Like other science fiction franchises, Halo has a wide range of action figures that are collected by fans of all ages, especially amongst video-game lovers. The different types of Spartan armor (the battle armor worn by Master Chief) worn on XBOX-live games are very popular, for instance, since everyone wants to show off their particular avatar.
Cortana is normally palm-sized in the game, so she makes for a great figure. The Arbiter, as another character playable in both single-player and multiplayer, is also very popular amongst the younger crowd. As Halo figures go, though, the die-cast and plastic versions of in-game vehicles are also a very cool gift for a fan of Halo.
